Event Description

Theologically, what is the relationship of justice to the gospel? Practically, how do church planters and pastors lead their congregations towards personal transformation and communal justice? Join us for this 90-minute interactive seminar with John Williams and Len Tang to discuss how justice can function as gospel witness both in the church and in our neighborhoods and cities.

Speakers

John Williams

John has diligently and faithfully worked toward racial reconciliation for almost 30 years under the influence of John Perkins. He is passionate about training groups who seek to increase their awareness around biblical multicultural and racial reconciliation. John is a graduate of UC Berkeley and USC Law School and practiced law for 20 years previously. He is currently the Director for the Center for Racial Reconciliation at Fellowship Monrovia.

Len Tang

Len Tang serves as the planter and pastor of Missio Community Church in Pasadena and the Director of Fuller Seminary’s Church Planting Initiative. He is Chinese-American, grew up in Pasadena, and came to faith in Christ at UC Berkeley. He got his MDiv from Fuller and has served as a Presbyterian pastor for 20 years. Len planted a church outside of Portland, Oregon and most recently planted Missio in 2017. He feels burdened for the Christian church to convene conversations and lead change in racial justice and is the convener of the Racial Justice Coalition of Greater Pasadena.

JR Woodward (Facilitator)

JR Woodward, Ph.D. (University of Manchester UK) has been passionately planting churches on the East and West Coast that value tight-knit community, life-forming discipleship, locally-rooted presence, and boundary-crossing mission for over 25 years. He is the author of Creating a Missional Culture (IVP, 2012) and co-author of The Church as Movement (IVP, 2016). He co-founded the Missio Alliance and currently serves as the National Director for the V3 Church Planting Movement. He is the co-founder of the Praxis Gathering and writes for numerous websites and journals. He loves to surf, travel, read, skateboard, and meet new people. He enjoys photography and film and tries to attend the Sundance Film Festival whenever he can.

Lori Ruffin (Facilitator)

Lori M. Ruffin is an upbeat strategic thinker. Fueled by a passion to help individuals and organizations fulfill their God-given purpose, she is the Operations Manager for the V3 Movement and the Founder of The COO Team, a virtual operations agency for nonprofits and small businesses. She enjoys helping others cultivate their relationship with God, songwriting and singing. She lives in Richmond, Va., with her husband and daughter.
