Discipleship happens in a place, and should affect that place.
At Praxis Gathering 2016, however, we are focusing on Shaping Disciples for Mission, but we do so with a “place-based lens.” We couldn’t do it without the help of our friend Matt Tebbe.
Meet Matt Tebbe
Matt Tebbe is a bi-vocational church planter who knows firsthand what place-based church is all about. His years of experience coaching and consulting planters and leaders in both missional churches and megachurches across North America and communicating to leaders across the missiological spectrum have helped him develop tools and resources that are changing the way church planting is done. Matt specializes in instructing leaders on how to form Christocentric cultures in their faith communities and homes using reproducible tools.
Because Matt has served in numerous pastoral roles within churches of all sizes, he is keen to practical processes that transition churches from paradigms focused inordinately on the Sunday worship experience to communities with extended discipleship/mission paradigms. Matt earned a Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and worked as an adjunct professor at Trinity College in Illinois.
Matt is cofounder of Gravity Leadership, an organization that “help[s] start Jesus-shaped movements by training leaders to lead like Jesus, live on mission, and multiply disciples.” It was through his experiences at Gravity that Matt sensed God leading him to plant a church that fleshed out the practices, tools, and scaffolding that were being developed systemically. Those experiences led to the planting of The Table in Fishers, Indiana. Matt and his lovely wife Sharon have two children, Deacon (6) and Celeste (3).

From the Sermonsmith podcast
Matt “tells us how his primary role as a spiritual formation pastor shapes his preaching, how sermon preparation is as much about paying attention as it is about time, and how he’s learned the hard way that his preaching is effective if he doesn’t direct it toward the heart.”
